Floyd’s Truck Center, based in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, is proud to maintain a robust partnership with the Northeastern Junior College (NJC) Diesel Technology Program. Our ongoing support includes regular visits to the program, where we engage with students about career opportunities in diesel technology. Earlier this month, our team, led by Sid Johnston, made another visit to discuss future prospects and advancements in the field.
Our contributions to the program go beyond visits. We have donated valuable equipment, including a 2011 M2 S114 heavy-duty truck with only 6,000 miles and a Detroit DD13 engine, and a frame mock-up for a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia concept truck with a Detroit DD15 diesel engine. These donations provide NJC students with hands-on experience and insights into real-world truck technology.
Since 2014, Floyd’s has proudly sponsored NJC’s program, granting access to comprehensive resources available through Freightliner dealerships, including Diagnostic Link 8 service information, Get Ahead online training, and DTNA Connect. This partnership enables NJC students to earn Freightliner certifications on various truck systems, including Detroit Diesel Engines and Mercedes. Many students have achieved up to 75 certificates.
Additionally, our sponsorship has facilitated advanced training for program coordinator Jimmy Atencio, allowing him to attend sessions in Chicago and Portland, Ore., to stay updated with the latest trucking technology.
In the past two years, Floyd’s Truck Center has awarded over $6,000 in Brian Greif Memorial Scholarships to NJC diesel students, supporting individuals such as Cortland Griebel, Robert Stratton, and Dylan Nolde. Our commitment to the program has helped elevate Northeastern Diesel Technology to 54th place nationwide out of 261 Freightliner-sponsored schools as of March 2021.
